From the cycle "Blickwinkel Oper"
Oil on canvas, 2019, 80 x 120 cm (h x w)

Scene and performance from the opera "Wozzeck" by Alban Berg, Vienna State Opera 2014, production by Adolf Dresen.

The first encounter between Marie and Tambourmajor in the opera turns into an exciting emotional showdown. Abandoned by Wozzeck, Marie enters into an uncompromising and electrifying relationship with the drum major. He embodies the longing and power , appearance and demeanor as Marie dreams in her imagination. In the scene depicted and painted here, the first confrontation takes place. Two worlds brag on each other - painted in two colors. The explosive world of the drum major in pink tones, the world of Marie in gray. Monotonous and colorless. The attempt to discredit and suppress Marie in the discussion is represented by the penetration of his body into the gray color world of Marie. Marie tries to defuse and end the argument with gentle and innocent smile.
