Representation of Unterach am Attersee, view from the lake to the shore.

The village at the southern end of Lake Attersee used to be called "Little Venice". Today, Unterach am Attersee impresses with a wonderful mixture of the imposing villas from the turn of the century and its village character. Impressive mountain scenery, turquoise-blue water - since the middle of the 19th century, Lake Attersee has been a place of longing for the middle classes and a popular destination for the annual summer retreat. Industrialists, bankers, doctors, scholars, poets, artists and eccentrics populated Seewalchen and Attersee, Unterach, Weißenbach or Steinbach year after year. Greats such as Johannes Brahms, Ignaz Brüll, Victor Léon, Gustav Klimt and Gustav Mahler spent their summers here, as did the soprano and chamber singer of the Vienna State Opera Maria Jeritza in a villa in Unterach am Attersee, which today has been lovingly restored.
