Senta finds her death in the fire - in the deep red - after the flying Dutchman has disappeared forever. Erik, Senta's chosen lover and dolt, stands stunned around the fire in which Senta has chosen her suicide. The Flying Dutchman appears dimly in the background in the guise of Death.
