Die Darstellung mit schwarzer Farbe des  freskenähnlich gemalten Bildes versinnbildlicht die Trennung zwischen Armut und Reichtum. Einerseits als Sohn eines reichen Tuchhändlers geboren, wendet er sich vom Reichtum des Vaters ab. Armut und Bescheidenheit bestimmen fortan sein Leben und Wirken.

The representation with black color of the fresco-like painted picture symbolizes the separation between poverty and wealth. On the one hand, born as the son of a rich cloth merchant, he turns away from the wealth of his father. Poverty and modesty henceforth determine his life and work.
