The oil painting "Mit dem grünen Lautenbande" is juxtaposed with the song of the same name by Franz Schubert.
As in the song, the color green is also dominant. The beautiful miller's wife can be seen four times here. The three stanzas of the song symbolize the three miller's wives "walking" towards Franz Schubert. The supposed fourth stanza, and the doubting question of the hoped-for, mutual love is represented in the somewhat backward, not facing figure. This is a symbol for the unfulfilled love. Franz Schubert is assumed to be in the right darker section of the picture.
